How Can Today Not Be a Good Day?

How Can Today Not Be a Good Day?

How can you not be excited, happy, and grateful today?

You woke up.

Before you do anything else, just let that sink in.

You opened your eyes. You took a breath. You have another day in front of you.

Someone, somewhere, woke up today and wished they could get out of bed, but they couldn’t.

Someone woke up paralyzed.

Someone woke up in a wheelchair.

Someone woke up grieving the loss of a mother or father.

Someone woke up grieving the loss of a son or daughter.

Someone woke up today fighting an addiction they desperately want to escape.

And some people didn’t wake up at all.

Every day, approximately 165,000 people around the world die. That’s roughly 60 million people a year.

Yet here you are.

Alive.

Breathing.

With another opportunity to experience life.

So how can today not be a good day?

That doesn’t mean every day will feel good.

There will be days that hurt.

There will be days that challenge you.

There will be days when the pressure feels overwhelming.

There will be days when someone gets under your skin, circumstances don’t go your way, and your emotions seem to take control.

There will be character-building days.

But what if those are good days too?

What if a good day isn’t defined by everything going your way?

What if a good day is simply another opportunity to become more of who you’re capable of becoming?

The difficult days teach us things the easy days never could.

They teach us patience.

They teach us resilience.

They teach us empathy.

They teach us humility.

They teach us boundaries.

They teach us forgiveness.

They teach us who we are when life doesn’t cooperate with the story we had planned.

So the next time someone upsets you, try something different.

Instead of asking:

“Why is this happening to me?”

Ask:

“What am I supposed to learn from this?”

Instead of asking:

“Why is this person being so difficult?”

Ask:

“What is this person teaching me about myself?”

Or perhaps ask an even better question:

“How am I supposed to serve this person right now?”

That doesn’t mean you allow people to mistreat you.

It doesn’t mean you ignore unhealthy behavior.

It doesn’t mean you have to stay in situations that are harmful.

It simply means you stop assuming that every difficult person or difficult circumstance is an interruption to your life.

Maybe it’s part of your education.

Maybe the person who tests your patience is teaching you patience.

Maybe the person who challenges your ego is showing you where your ego still lives.

Maybe the situation that frustrates you is teaching you surrender.

Maybe the disappointment is teaching you that your happiness cannot depend on everything going according to plan.

Maybe the difficult day isn’t happening to you.

Maybe it’s happening for you.

The moment you change the question, you change the experience.

And that is where your power begins.

Because life isn’t only about what happens to you.

It’s about the meaning you give to what happens.

Two people can experience the exact same circumstance and walk away with completely different experiences.

One sees an obstacle.

The other sees an opportunity.

One sees an enemy.

The other sees a teacher.

One sees a bad day.

The other sees another day to grow.

Perspective changes everything.

So before you label today as a bad day, take a breath.

Look around.

You’re here.

You have another day.

Another opportunity to love.

Another opportunity to learn.

Another opportunity to serve.

Another opportunity to become better.

Another opportunity to change the story.

Because maybe the goal isn’t to create a life where nothing difficult ever happens.

Maybe the goal is to become the kind of person who can find growth, meaning, gratitude, and even love in whatever happens.

Change how you see things, and the things you see will change.

So how can today not be a good day?

You’re here.

You’re alive.

And you get another chance.

That’s a pretty damn good day.
