Help me stop confusing understanding a lesson with actually living it.
God,
I believe You have blessed me with a remarkable mind. A mind that is curious, analytical, questioning, and constantly searching for understanding. I love the way You created me. I love the way my mind works, the questions it asks, and the connections it makes. The further I travel on this journey, the more I realize how uniquely I experience the world, for better or worse.
But today, I want to ask You for something more important than understanding. I want to ask for the courage to change.
Sometimes I wonder if my confidence has become a little too strong. I speak about questioning everything and being certain of nothing, yet I recognize that there may be a certainty within me that I don’t always see. Perhaps my confidence in the way I think, the way I interpret things, and the conclusions I reach sometimes makes it difficult for me to hear something different.
I don’t want my mind to become an obstacle to the very wisdom I am searching for.
If there are things within me that need to change, give me the courage to face them. If there are beliefs I need to reconsider, help me loosen my grip on them. If there are behaviors I need to leave behind, give me the strength to do so. And if Your direction takes me somewhere I wasn’t expecting, help me have the humility to follow.
Don’t let me become so fascinated with understanding Your wisdom that I forget to practice it. Don’t let me become so good at recognizing lessons that I overlook the ones I still need to learn. Help me understand that knowing better is not the same as doing better, and that real growth is measured not by what I can explain, but by how I live.
I recognize that, more often than not, I am the one who gets in the way of my own progress. My ego, my certainty, my habits, and my attachment to the way I see things can become obstacles. Help me recognize those moments. Help me get out of my own way. Help me prioritize Your will over my preferences and Your wisdom over my assumptions.
I thank You for the curiosity You have planted in my heart. Thank You for giving me this insatiable desire to chase You, to chase wisdom, to chase understanding, and to continue growing. Thank You for making this journey exciting and for giving me a mind that never seems to stop searching.
But above all, help me remember what I am searching for.
I don’t just want to know more. I want to become better. I don’t just want to recognize truth. I want to live in it. I don’t just want to understand love, humility, patience, forgiveness, and compassion. I want those qualities to become increasingly visible in the way I treat others and the way I live my life.
Keep my mind curious, but keep my heart humble. Keep me confident enough to move forward, but humble enough to change direction. Never let my desire to understand become stronger than my willingness to listen.
Thank You for this life, for this mind, for this curiosity, and for every opportunity to grow.
Most of all, thank You for continuing to teach me.
I love You.
Amen.
