2020 Review plus 2021 Goals

Reviewing 2020 plus 2021 GOALS

So exactly a year ago I wrote the blog below. I will note on it to review my performance for the year in order to continue to learn and grow.

2019 What did I learn?

Did I impact my mental and physical health?

What’s next?

I love my kids current ages for they give me so much perspective on life. Spending the quality time that I’ve been able to this year has been amazing and priceless.

Wow, who knew how much more time I would actually spend with them on 2020. Weird blessing.

I’ve learned that I can pick up and go anywhere and be fine. Home is where my loved ones are.

I’ve learned that isolation is sometimes needed in order to grow.

Proving the statement above, I picked up and moved yet again.

I’ve learned that even if I’m growing older it doesn’t mean I can’t also grow stronger, healthier and more fulfilled.

I learned a lot this year. I learned that when I write here, I generally do so as a sort of journal rather than as an article.

I’ve learned that location doesn’t bring happiness. Happiness comes from within.

I learned how to push myself way beyond my current expectations.

I completely blew that statement out the water in 2020

I learned that I can run. Went from my 1st run being .22 of a mile before stopping to 20 miles in less than 4 months.

Once I got into running, I quickly realized that I was running for the mental benefits more than the physical benefits.

Now what? I’m big on new year’s resolutions so….

I think working on my physical and mental health has definitely been a great theme for me so let’s bring in the new year with some better eating habits, and sharing my mental and physical activities on a daily for self accountability.

Goal one

Intermittent fasting. Beginning with a 16/8 on week one. I’m going to run a couple different variations of this through the next 60 days with 16/8 being the easiest.

Completed and so much more.

Goal two

Exercise more. This one is going to be pretty hard since in 2019 I put in lots of miles and I worked out so much. Nevertheless, I know I can do even better this year.

I didn’t really complete this one. Circumstances in March had me cancel my gym membership and unfortunately I didn’t make up the workouts in any other form.  However, I absolutely killed the running mileage finishing with 1021 miles ran including running my 1st marathon at 43 years young 🤨

Goal three

Although I read some great books in 2019, this year I commit to reading a lot more. I plan on carving some time every day to make sure I read.

I might have only read a handful of books this year but I listened to over 30 audiobooks so I give myself partial credit.

Goal four

Throughout the years I’ve achieved some great clarity in my mind and my soul through writing. However like reading I feel I can do so much better. In 2020 I plan on journaling every day in order to feed my soul.

Achieved! I journaled more than ever and quite consistently plus I wrote quite an array of blogs.

In my professional life I have goals however my main goal there is to continue making a difference in the establishment and more importantly on each individual until it is time for me to do so on a greater scale.

In 2020 I was blessed to be able to meet some amazing folks through my jobs, from colleagues, supervisors, teammates, customers, even through some special events.

Can’t wait to see what 2020 brings in.

I plan on living with a little more purpose this year.

In conclusion, although I thought I achieved 100% of my goals this past year, by doing this reflection exercise I see I had some room for improvement but nevertheless I did plenty for me to feel proud of myself which is very important to me.

Did I live with more purpose, yes I believe so. I didn’t stop with the above goals.

Just because we set goals, it doesn’t mean we’re to hold ourselves back.

I had the bravery to move from a great situation to one I felt would have more purpose in the long run.

I stopped drinking just because I felt it was time. Did I have a problem? Was I an alcoholic? Maybe or maybe not but why wait until it does become a problem where it gets out of hand?

2020 was a scary year for all. It was more challenging to some and sad to some.

In a weird but beautiful manner 2020 was pretty awesome for me and pretty much my entire family.

  • I kept my focus.
  • The wife and kids have enjoyed yet another journey.
  • The wife got pretty close to her dream job at home.
  • My oldest son is doing amazing and so much better than he has in a very long time.
  • My entire family has dodged this pandemic pretty good which i feared with my mom, sister and brother travelling as much as they’ve had to.
  • My brother and I have gotten closer than ever.

Now it’s time to say thank you 2020 but BYEEEEEE!

Moving forward 2021 Goals Below

If we don’t discipline ourselves, our environment will do it for us.

In the last few years I’ve recreated myself.

In 2020 I recreated myself in an advance manner.

In 2021 I want to keep that same momentum going.

This year I’m going to change things up a bit rather than recreate myself completely as I have in the past.

Some things I’m incorporating this year along with achieving:

Weight goal of 230lbs

HIIT workouts

8/16 intermittent fasting

2000 calorie intake max

Marathon x 1 minimum

50K

Meditate daily

Read on Self Discipline

Write on Self Discipline

Learn the skill of professional audio & video editing

Co-create a fun, growth-filled Podcast with my Big Brother

Learn how to play the guitar with my sons

2021 is going to be all about Self Discipline and balance while still pushing myself to the limits
